Abstract

An aqueous extract of the dry flower heads of Achillea millefolium (yarrow) has been found to possess anti-inflammatory activity as measured by the mouse paw edema test. Fractionation has resulted in the isolation of a material which reduces inflammation by 35%. This concentrate is water-soluble, nonsteroidal, and has a very low order of toxicity. Physical and chemical studies show this active fraction to be a mixture of protein-carbohydrate complexes.
