Abstract

The extraction of caffeine by hydrophilic and hydrophobic aliphatic alcohols of linear and branched structure is studied, also by water-soluble alkyl acetates. A correlation between the distribution ratios of caffeine (logD) and the molecular weight of alcohol (logM) is found. The concentration of caffeine in the aqueous phase is determined by UV spectrophotometry. The distribution ratios and recovery of caffeine are calculated.
