Abstract
Abstract The structure of a 3,6-diketo steroid, isolated from red alga Hypnea musciformis is the first of this class to be confirmed by X-ray analysis. Ring junctions A/B, B/C and C/D are all trans ; the configuration of angular methyl groups at C(10), C(13) and the cholesterol-like side chain with a double bond C22=C23 emanating from C(17) have been settled as ß-axial.
