Abstract

1. 1. The cytochrome content of Dictyostelium discoideum cells grown under a number of conditions is reported. 2. 2. The procedure for extracting cytochrome c from D. discoideum cells is given. 3. 3. Some of the physicochemical properties of this cytochrome c are reported and compared with the properties of a mammalian and a bacterial cytochrome c. 4. 4. Cytochrome c from D. discoideum is very similar to that isolated from mammalian sources. It undergoes a haem linked pH transition (pK 9.3) which drastically alters its behaviour towards reducing agents.
