Abstract

Abstract Functionalized amino acids are highly versatile building blocks in organic chemistry. Their ready availability and low cost has meant that they are widely used in organic synthesis. Recrystallization is often used as a method for purification, however this is not always applicable. The highly polar nature of this family of compounds means that purification by conventional flash chromatography is often difficult. In this chapter the use of a more appropriate technique, reversed-phase dry flash chromatography on a preparative scale, is reviewed. The use of reversed-phase HPLC and ion exchange chromatography will not be covered.
