Abstract

AbstractThe taxonomic status of the Atlantic and Mediterranean poor cod is a controversial issue. Here we present 10 microsatellite loci from poor cod Trisopterus minutus (L), which have been tested across 10 populations of poor cod. Most loci are highly polymorphic with 7–65 alleles, with one exception, the Tmssr two loci. In poor cod it is a compound microsatellite exhibiting extensive allelic variation. These markers have utility for the two subspecies of poor cod and possible utility for the Trisopterus genus. They may also provide a strong tool for detailed population studies in all gadoids.
