Abstract

The isolated perfused liver is a useful intact organ model for examining the hepatobiliary disposition of drugs without the complication of many factors that are difficult to control in vivo such as neuronal and hormonal influences on hepatic metabolism, as well as absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion by nonhepatic routes. The intact perfused organ preserves hepatic architecture, cell polarity, and bile flow, in contrast to in vitro models like liver slices, hepatocytes, microsomes, and liver plasma membrane vesicles.KeywordsLiver LobuleBile FlowHepatic ClearancePerfuse LiverPericentral RegionThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
