Abstract

Large gastric varices without esophageal varices, usually referred to as isolated gastric varices (IGV), usually occur in patients with portal hypertension. IGV due to splenic venous invasion by pancreatic cancer is considered to be rare. We present such a case, and emphasize the need to carry out a search for the presence of splenic venous occlusion if a likely primary cause is not identified in the liver.
