Abstract

The high resolution afforded by isoelectric focusing in thin layers of polyacrylamide gel haas been applied to the separation of trypanosome antigens that previously could not be resolved either by column chromatography or by starch-gel electrophoresis. The above method, in combination with characterisation reactions, showed that a group of precipitating antigens were protein—carbohydrate complexes which appeared to have enzymic activity.
