Abstract

In order to avoid the pollution and the corrosion of inorganic anions, such as BF4−, SO42- and Cl−, three ionic liquids (ILs) with different organic anions (1-methylimidazolium acetate [MIM]Ac, 1-methylimidazolium 2-hydroxypropionate [MIM]HPr and 1-methyl imidazolium propionate [MIM]Pr) were studied as entrainers for separating acetone + methanol azeotropic mixture. Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data for the ternary system containing ILs were measured at 101.3 kPa by using an all-glass dynamic recirculating still. The experimental data are well correlated by using the nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) model. The separation ability of the three ILs follows the order: [MIM]Ac > [MIM]HPr > [MIM]Pr.
