Abstract

There are widespread misperceptions about Islam in the West in a sharp contrast with its message of peace, moderation, enlightenment, and progress as shown by the teachings contained in the Holy Quran and reflected by the life of Prophet Muhammad. Islamic civilization at its zenith made valuable contributions to mankind’s march toward progress and enlightenment. There is no justification, therefore, for Islamophobia from which many in the West suffer. The need of the hour is for moderation, dialogue, and mutual understanding between the two great civilizations in the interest of international peace and prosperity. The international community’s failure to do so may consign it to prolonged periods of strife and conflict to the detriment of the whole world.
