Abstract

This paper reviews the development of Islamic economics at variouslevels. It examines the discursive accumulation of knowledge onIslamic economic topics and explores their contents and future directionIt evaluates the achievements of research and banking institutions.It also examines the extent to which Islamic economics has gainedacceptance in the minds of ordinary Muslims and in the practices ofMuslim states. This review is intended to provide a roadmap for thefuture development of the discipline. In the spirit of constructive criticalthinking it also provides a useful critique of the many failures of theinstitutions and limits of the discourse.
