Abstract
Proximal, painful myopathy during life and complicating hyperparathyroidism secondary to chronic renal failure has been documented histologically only once previously. This patient's unusual, noninflammatory myopathy, with focal calcium deposits, was due to ischemia caused by luminal stenosis in arterioles with circumferential medial calcification and concentric fibrous intimal proliferation.
