Abstract

It has been hypothesized that differential expression of certain enzymes (such as A-transferase) among different ABO blood groups might play a vital role in oocyte accrual and attrition. Furthermore, genes impacting ovarian reserve have been localized in close proximity with the ABO locus and are therefore more commonly inherited together. For these reasons, it is theoretically possible that a correlation between ABO blood types and ovarian reserve exists. Emerging studies exploring this possibility report contradictory results.
