Abstract

Regenerative medicine by directed differentiation of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) involves a therapeutic cloning procedure in which pluripotent cells are isolated from the inner cell mass (ICM) of blastocysts generated by somatic cell nuclear transfer. However, our prior experiments have shown that the development of such cloned embryo is impaired. It is not clear whether the efficiency of ESC derivation from cloned embryos is also compromised and whether there is any influence of the source of somatic cell nuclei.
