Abstract

Handgrip strength can be easily measured; however, lack of a quantitative relationship with other force types restricts its usefulness. The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between handgrip force and moments of force in upper and lower limb joints in reference to age and sex. Multivariate regression analysis of the measurements resulted in models of decrees of moments of force according to handgrip and age. The study proved that: differences related to age are higher in lower limbs with the highest reserved for knee flexion and extension; difference in the strength of upper limbs in reference to age is higher for males, while for females age influences the strength of lower limbs; handgrip can be a better predictor of strength of limbs muscle groups after scaling with corresponding models; the best approximation of the developed models is for the knee strength.
