Abstract
The cost of keeping your name on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register is escalating every year, and it seems little is been done to explain or justify the costs. Recently, a colleague telephoned the NMC and asked for a breakdown of the expenditure so she could see where the money was being spent. Unfortunately, no satisfactory reply was offered (except some remarks about the spiralling costs of legal fees for professional misconduct cases).
