Abstract
Three species of mycoplasma, Acholeplasma laidlawii, Mycoplasma bovigenitalium and Ureaplasma spp., were isolated during an examination of aborted foetuses, non-aborted foetuses, their placentas and their dams’ vaginal mucus. Mycoplasma were recovered from 23.7% of aborted placentas and from none of the non-aborted placentas. 10.2% of vaginal mucus samples taken on the day of abortion contained mycoplasmas but mycoplasma were not recovered from the vaginas of non-aborting cows. It is impossible to say from the evidence produced whether or not the organisms had any direct relationships with the abortions.
