Abstract
1. 1. A series of 198 patients with injuries to the chest wall is reviewed. 2. 2. Eighty-five per cent of these patients required admission to the hospital. 3. 3. One hundred eighty-eight thoracic complications were encountered. 4. 4. In thirty-two patients pneumothorax developed, of which eight were delayed in onset and may have been complications of treatment. 5. 5. Twenty-one patients died, and rib fracture was thought to be the main or contributory cause in fifteen. 6. 6. The mortality in patients over the age of fifty years was twice that of those under that age. 7. 7. A program of management is outlined.
