Abstract
Professor Schroeder's paraphrased hypothesis is that a central determinant of impaired membrane function (neuroendocrine, transport, secretory and immunoregulatory processes) with age is loss of lipid asymmetry (change in lipid distribution) caused by lipid peroxidation and biopolymer cross-linking, primarily on the cytoplasmic side of the bilayer.
