Abstract

In paintings of a pictorial nature, the artist exploits the use of the traditional monocular cues to depth to provide a visual sense of three-dimensionality onto a two-dimensional surface. This illusory sense of depth can be enhanced using a variety of simple strategies. These will be described in the context of the underlying visual science and basic bioengineering control system concepts, with expansion to include non-pictorial renderings.
