Abstract

In the past decade, new funding mechanisms such as the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria have led to an increase in international investment in malaria control. WHO estimates that, by 2012, this scaling up of anti-malaria interventions had prevented 3·3 million deaths.1 Most of these epidemiological benefits are attributable to increased coverage with effective vector control; in the past 5 years, over 500 million long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) have been delivered.
