Abstract

The poverty of the health debate is as much the fault of the health community as the politicians. Too many people who should know better act as willing stooges for an increasingly superficial national media, whose only aim is to act out whatever clichés are deemed most appropriate for their perceived market audience. Although some excellent articles are buried deep inside the feature sections, the front pages and television news bulletins are full of phoney problems and phonier solutions.
