Abstract

This study aims to analyze the suitability of idle shrimp pond for grouper aquaculture in Langsa and Aceh Tamiang. The sampling locations were spread over 7 villages in Langsa and 8 villages in Aceh Tamiang. Data were collected from July to August 2022. The ponds size was varied and observed for the soil parameters such as soil texture, organic matter, pH, and Fe content. While for water quality, the parameters were temperature, salinity, pH, DO and brightness. The method used was mapping of idle ponds using GIS, interviews, and water quality measurements, as well as using the matching method to obtain land suitability classes. The study found that the quality of soil and water in the two areas was feasible for the development of grouper aquaculture. The soil types are 62% sand, 46% clay, 31.44% organic matter, pH 5.5, and FE 200 ppm. Whereas the water salinity ranges from 27-32.1 ppt, DO 4.5-6.2, pH 5.5-8.3 with a brightness level of 1.5 m. Moreover analysis of the land conditions are classified into S2 (quite suitable). Therefore, it is recommended to use the idle ponds for grouper farming.
