Abstract

Many readers might be surprised to see such a question addressed in BJNN. An equal number might consider the question beyond the pale of professional acceptability for reasons of clinical ethics, or for more personal reasons such as religous or other deeply held values. The question appears to pertain to the realm of ethics rather than to the realm of legal obligations. However, the two can intersect and professional ethics can become merged in the area of legal obligations. John Finch, an independent journalist specialising in the law and ethics of clinical practice, examines how this can happen.
