Abstract

Accounting academics have been at the forefront of research analyzing the use of relative performance evaluation metrics for business executives. Yet the use of such metrics for evaluating accounting academics is quite limited. This paper introduces metrics for evaluating the relative impact of accounting research publications. The metrics are based on current practices in bibliometrics and normalize citation rates by field, year of publication and publication type. The use of these metrics should facilitate more informed performance evaluations for accounting researchers.
