Abstract
ABSTRACT time yet for a hundred indecisions and for a hundred visions and revisions before the taking of toast and tea." T.S. Eliot The Am star at the south pole, HR 5491, reported by Bessell and Eggen (1972) to be pulsating has been reinvestigated. The metallic-line nature is confirmed, but careful photometric observations on 10 November 1971 showed no evidence of light variability. Other variables with a high photometric metallicity index in the Hyades group are shown to be above the main sequence, so that so far little evidence for pulsation of classical Am stars exists. Key words: metallic-line stars - variable stars
