Abstract

I read the article of DiSaia et al. (Disaia PJ, Grosen EA, Kurosaki T, Gildea M, Cowan B, Culver HA. Hormone replacement therapy in breast cancer survivors: A cohort study. Am J Obstet Gynecol 1996;174:1494-8.) with interest. However, I don't agree with DiSaia et al. for several reasons. Hormone replacement therapy in breast cancer may not be as safe as they have reported. The study group is very small and inclusion criteria are not clear and, although the control group is comparable with the study group in age at diagnosis, stage of disease, and year of diagnosis, how these 82 subjects had been selected among 11,000 patients has to be explained.
