Abstract

Cornea and Contact Lens Research Unit (CCLRU), School of Optometry and Vision Science, and Cooperative Research Centre for Eye Research and Technology (CRCERT), The University of New South Wales Forty years ago, Otto Wichterle, then Monty Ruben, John DeCarle, Phillip Cordrey, David Clulow and Klaus Nilsson dreamed of and then experimented with, a ‘permanent’ contact lens solution to refractive error, ‘continuous wear’. Three times in the past 30 years, ex- tended wear has been inappropriately released for public consumption.
