Abstract
A correspondence is drawn between features of the Baldwin eect and those of cancer. Non-heritability of plastic traits corresponds with the somatic nature of cancer causing mutations. Plasticity then corresponds with the rate at which somatic mutations are formed, amplied, or removed. One then need not hypothesize or look for new genes that code for the range of plasticity as required by the Simpson-Baldwin eect.
