Abstract

Congenital cardiac surgical manuscripts and peer-reviewed publications appropriately offer insights regarding technical considerations and mechanisms where our subspecialty contributes to the care of children with complex congenital heart disease. An ongoing shift from purely survival and freedom from reintervention data toward more focused investigations into morbidity and long-term quality of life aspects secondary to the care we render is important. In addition, our understanding as a surgical community of the value our contributions to the multidisciplinary care approach to our patients outside the operating room is profound.
