Abstract

The development of a pressure ulcer is often associated with quality of care in long-term care facilities. Considerable effort has been directed to decreasing the incidence of pressure ulcers in nursing care facilities by guideline development, consensus statements, regulatory agencies, clinical trials, and use of specialized wound care teams. Quality indicators based on pressure ulcer prevalence rates have been developed, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services routinely disseminate results on most nursing homes in this country on their Web site.
