Abstract

This paper presents the initiation of the single-phase induction machine working as a self-excited induction generator through the cross-flow turbine, which runs by the irrigation water and generated power used for low power appliances. Instead of conventional synchronous generators, these self-excited induction generators are suitable for renewable energy sources like wind power generation systems, micro, and Pico hydropower generation system. In this paper laboratory test results of single-phase, 1 HP induction machine has been discussed. The self-excitation attained by shunt connected capacitors to the main winding and auxiliary winding kept open. Resistive and reactive loads are connected to the main winding. The required voltage and frequency from the induction generator, with and without a controller for the resistive and reactive load has been discussed. Thyristor controlled reactor has been used as a voltage controller and a required pulse is generated by Arduino Uno.
