Abstract

ABSTRACT SHORT-SEASON cotton was grown near Tucson, AZ, at a population of 148,000 plants per ha using two rows per 1 m bed. Approximately 50 percent depletion of available moisture in the top 1 m of soil gave the highest yields. This is a wetter irrigation regime than for full-season, conventional cotton. Early irri-gation termination reduced the number of irrigations by one, and caused some yield reduction. Terminating too early reduced fiber quality.
