Abstract

Ear syringing or ear irrigation is usually carried out by practice nurses in primary care to remove excessive ear wax. Before ear syringing, sodium bicarbonate may be used twice a day for 1week to soften or assist expulsion of the impacted wax. If eardrops fail to remove the wax and the wax is soft, the practice nurse may decide to syringe the ears with the Propulse electric ear irrigation machine.
