Abstract
The photoreduction products of the irradiation of 4-phenylterephthalophenone in pyridine – isopropyl alcohol were 4-(4-phenylbenzoyl)benzhydrol (2) and the unexpected product, 4-benzoyl-4′-phenyl-benzhydrol (3). The structures have been confirmed by an independent synthesis of each. A possible mechanism is discussed.
