Abstract

We have measured peripheral blood monocyte function in breast cancer patients, using a maturation assay and a colony-forming assay. The results indicate that the changes in these two functions induced by local radiotherapy, are inversely related, so that patients showing an increase in circulating colony forming cells have monocytes with a decreased maturation index.
