Abstract

Summary: The current article examines the use of irony in two short stories by Víctor Català and Josep Carner: «Parricidi» and «L’objecte màgic», respectively. These are two particularly interesting examples for the study of the subject, since the ironic treatment is carried out around the concepts that support the authors’ vision: fatalism, in Víctor Català, and arbitrariness, in Josep Carner. Thanks to the study not only the use of situational irony or dramatic irony in Català, but also the use or verbal irony, with its different procedures, in Carner’s story can be confirmed. [Keywords: Irony; vision of the world; fatalism; arbitrariness; Josep Carner; Víctor Català]
