Abstract
AbstractIron has received much attention in recent years as a catalyst for cross‐coupling reactions. Besides attractive features such as wide availability, low cost, and negligible toxicity, iron shows a unique reactivity that allows cross‐couplings to proceed under mild reaction conditions with high chemoselectivity. Reactions of various nucleophiles (organomagnesium, ‐zinc, ‐copper, ‐boron, etc.) with alkenyl, aryl, alkyl, and miscellaneous electrophiles are described. Oxidative and reductive couplings and reactions involving CH bond cleavage are also discussed. Several mechanistic possibilities and synthetic applications are briefly presented.
