Abstract

An inverse method for finding the iron loss distribution in an electrical machine is proposed. By measuring the temperature on the surface and at a limited number of points inside the machine, we gain some information of the heat sources. The iron loss appears as an unknown source term in the heat equation, and the reconstruction of this term from incomplete temperature measurements is an inverse problem. A simplified problem is used to study the feasibility of a numerical solution of this problem.
