Abstract
Abstract A history of contention with regard to the use of “postcolonial” to describe the politics and culture of the Irish recall s us to issues of methodology and commitments in the field of postcolonial studies while scholarship in Irish studies points to the need for continued and collective exertion in understanding the idea of empire over time in forms both traditional and emergent. Although once hotly debated, and now largely accepted, Irish postcolonialism remains a productive topic capable of yielding new insights as both Irish and Postcolonial Studies continue to evolve in response to historical and global developments.
