Abstract

Two new iridoid glucosides named phloyosides I and II, and four known iridoid glucosides, shanzhiside methyl ester, barlerin, sesamoside and penstemoside were isolated from the roots of Phlomis younghusbandii. The structures of phloyosides I and II were elucidated by spectroscopic and chemical methods. In addition, the structure of 7-epiphlomiol recently reported from Phlomis rotata as the 7-epimer of phlomiol was shown to be incorrect and to be the same as that of phloyoside II and not phloyoside I (7-epiphlomiol).
