Abstract

Campylanthus salsaloides Roth and C. glaber Benth. (Plantaginaceae; Veronicaceae) are shrubs endemic to the Canary Islands and the Cape Verde Islands respectively. These two species form a Macronesian group disjunct from the remaining 13 species of Campylanthus found in north-eastern Africa, Arabia and one in Pakistan (Hjertson, 1997). Aerial parts of C. salsaloides were collected at Tenerife, Ladera de Guimar, in the spring 2001. A voucher (NR-55) has been deposited at the Botanical Museum, The University of Copenhagen. Campylanthus glaber was propagated from seeds provided by Botanischer Garten Berlin-Dahlem and originating from Mte Gordo on Sao Nicolau, Cape Verde Islands. Voucher specimen (Kilian and Leyens 3140) has been deposited in the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem (B).
