Abstract

Abstract Thirty years ago, the research reactor of the Interfacultair Reactor Institute (IRI) of the Delft University of Technology became critical for the first time. Therefore, the institute organized a one-day national symposium on October 7, 1993 in Delft on the applications of thermal neutron beams in condensed matter and materials research. The purpose was to inform Dutch scientists about the state of the art of experimental techniques using neutron beams, about neutron beam facilities available to them, in particular on the neutron source, and the instrumentation at the Delft 2 MW research reactor. Also, it was hoped to get some feedback on the subject of future developments at IRI. There were 120 attendants, 68 from outside IRI, of which 59 were Dutch scientists.
