Abstract

Colloidal carriers called solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) are used for regulated medication delivery. This work is aimed to create Irbesartan solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) by using various nonionic surfactants like Tween-20, Tween-80, Span-80 and Span-20 in order to overcome the drawback of irbesartan which has limited water solubility (IRB). Irbesartan which is an antihypertensive agent belonging to the class of Angiotensin II receptor antagonist used in the treatment of hypertension has poor aqueous solubility and poor bioavailability. Eight different formulations are prepared by solvent injection method using different concentrations of different nonionic surfactants. The evaluated parameters for solid lipid nanoparticles were zeta potential, release of drug, size of the particle, entrapment efficiency. All the formulations showed good drug release but F5 formulation containing higher amount of Span 80 is considered to be optimized preparation.
