Abstract

The positions and intensities of all vibrational transitions in the (ν 1, 2ν 2) Fermi doublet region of (CO 2) 2 dimers are obtained by means of variational method. The collision-induced absorption in compressed carbon dioxide is shown to be mainly due to dimeric absorption. Assignment of ν 1 and 2ν 2 vibrational bands in isolated CO 2 molecule is performed by consideration of the symmetries and intensities of dimeric vibrations.
