Abstract
Electron-rich arenes and heteroarenes react with aldehydes in the presence of a dual catalytic system [Ir(cod)Cl]2/SnCl4 affording triarylmethanes in good yields. This is a simple method for the synthesis of various triarylmethanes, including heterocyclic compounds. Besides, this work contributes to an extremely promising approach in catalysis by bimetallic species with participation of a transition metal. The process can be used, for instance, in the modular synthesis of bioactive triarylmethane derivatives.
