Abstract

The dose distributions for the interstitial implants using Ir-192 hair pins are analyzed by a computer and dosage table (mg Ra equivalent-hrs per 10 Gy (1000 rad)) to help the radiotherapist to plan the optimum arrangement are presented in this paper. The Dose Interval Area Rate was introduced in order to analyze the dose distribution. Dose Interval Area Rate indicates the change of the absorbed dose distributions for the distance from the implant plane. The basic absorbed dose, designated to mention the homogeneity of the absorbed distributions, is equal to"85% reference dose"(Paris system). The results obtained are as follows : 1) Treatment Distance (h, the distance between the implant and the treatment plane) is 3.5〜4.0 mm for planar implants. Therefore, the separation factor is different from the Manchester system (Ra-needle).-Table II. 2) There is a different of ±5% in the dosage for the common treatment area of the tongue cancer (8〜26 cm^2) between the Manchester system and the planar implant with hair pins.-Table I.
