Abstract

Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) with the rotor using two different cores is proposed. Permalloy is used in part of the rotor. In this paper, the principle of motor performance is described. Permalloy operates same as a flux barrier when the motor drives at low speed and high torque, and it actively operates to short circuit the magnet flux when the motor drives at high speed and low torque. Motor characteristics are obtained by the simulation of FEM, and results are compared with simulation ones of a basic IPMSM. According to the examination results, although the speed is increased, the average torque is decreased and the high efficiency range is almost the same as the basic motor.
