Abstract

Personal security and refuge are the utmost disquiet for everyone, whether it’s data security or the security of their own self and household. To be smart, a thing doesn’t need to have splendid storage or a supercomputer for performing tasks intelligently; it just needs access to it. Our chapter aims at passing on the solicitation of machine learning (ML) and Internet of Things (IoT) progressions together to design integrated home security and personal safety system that works effectively during this pandemic situation. Our system is a perceptive IoT system, and the associated microcontroller unit collects various sensor data inside and outside the home and takes decisions based on a trained logistic regression algorithm. The controller will continuously read and update the same to the cloud using an IoT module through its gateway. The IoT server unremittingly monitors and updates the user’s mobile about any person’s arrival at the house and the internal conditions of the house. Thus, at the time of security collapse or during any health sickness, the intelligence of machine learning techniques acts similar to the community first-responder network. The advantage gained by choosing this arrangement over the related kinds of existing systems is that the alarms and the actuators are controlled using artificially trained smart microcontroller systems via Wi-Fi and cloud data analysis. It could be accessed by a person on his/her smartphone irrespective of the distance from home. Also, emergency calling and automatic turning off of the devices help us to save the lives of people rescued from critical conditions inside the house. We have a great number of projects and products operating disjointedly on the aspect of ensuring home security and people’s health safety. However, today’s epidemic situation requires a special feature of integrating the two into a single system, which is elucidated in this chapter.
